The Job Mentoring Service supports job seekers who are legally able to work in New Zealand, are actively looking for skilled work and are ready to move into the workforce. Those seeking work come from a broad range of skill fields including IT and telecommunications, HR, finance and banking, education and law.
Looking for work in a new country is a process that can take time & skill and requires sound local and cultural knowledge. A labour market that continues to be highly-competitive with high unemployment impacts significantly on marginalised groups like the migrant job seeker. There is more and more evidence that it is harder and can take longer for many to obtain meaningful employment in most skill sectors. This can cause disillusionment, frustration and sometimes indifference. Our job seekers often did not expect such challenges in securing work and are unsure what they should or should not do to enhance their employment chances.
This Service offers a high level of moral and practical employment support from our dedicated volunteers in a much tougher environment. With mentor support, job seekers remain diligent in their job search and smart in their job focus and job-seeking strategies. They receive updated labour market knowledge and a good understanding of the requirements of the job application process and the NZ workplace. We believe that the job search is more effective with the guidance, support & encouragement of a Job Mentor and job-search skills' workshops like the Network Nights and the Job Skills Seminar Series (see Home Page.)
